My blogging journey: I don’t want to get rich. I just want to do what I love.

My blogging journey: I don’t want to get rich. I just want to do what I love.

Okay, maybe I want to get a little rich. I don’t think any serious blogger would say they don’t want to make a little money on their blog side hustle. I call BS on that.

At some point, I do hope my blog can make me some spending cash. Maybe enough cash to cover the cost of all the decorating and DIY’ing I do for this blog, for instance. But making money is not the main reason I started this journey. After all, it’s hard to make money on posts like these:

It’s just me… sharing my best tips & tricks with those interested. Don’t ask those closest to me though ’cause they’ll surely dish on my secret grand delusions of fame-dom, but I’ll deny it all. Wink, wink 😉

I started it for a few not-so-ludicrous reasons, and it’s not just that I’m a writer by trade. I mean, that helps, of course. But it’s more than that.

I’ve always felt envious of those people who claim they were “made” for their jobs. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my day job (ad copywriter – read more here). But I’ve never truly felt like I was “made” for it. Do I work my tail off to deliver solid work? Yes. Does it come super naturally to me? I guess one could argue it’s the most natural skill I have. So yes, it comes more naturally than say, physics or trigonometry. But do I think I was “made” for it? Meh.

But here’s what I know for sure: My skill set doesn’t stop at a lengthy Microsoft Word doc. And fixing up my house, diy-ing, designing, creating and blogging about it all is one of the first times I’ve truly felt like all my passions and aptitudes can finally meet and exchange BFF necklaces.

That’s the truth.

Though, do I sometimes commission artwork? Yes. Do I often consult on related design dilemmas for interested parties? Yes. But do I want to quit my day job? No. And do I think this blog will ever turn into a viral sensation prompting HGTV to cold call me for my own tv show? Or book deal? That’s hilarious.

But one can dream : )
